For referring veterinarians

Remote consultation

A surgical opinion before you commit to a plan. We aim to give the same quality of judgement we would in a specialty hospital, which depends directly on the quality of the information we receive.

The process

Three steps, in this order

Please bear in mind as you fill it in that you are writing on behalf of a patient we have not met.

One

Read the workflow first

Know the before, during and after shape of a surgery day before you send the case. It makes the consultation shorter and more useful.

Two

Send the case through

Complete every field. Gaps are the single biggest cause of scheduling delays, because we come back asking rather than answering.

Three

Expect a reply in 1 to 2 business days

Usually sooner. If nothing has arrived by the next business day, check your spam folder and then call us.

Required diagnostics

What has to come with the case

These are requirements rather than preferences. A surgical opinion without them is a guess.

Bloodwork

  • Pre-anesthetic bloodwork for every case. Send the results even when they are within normal limits.
  • CBC and chemistry profile.

Unwell patient

Within 2 weeks

Healthy patient

Within 2 months

Imaging

  • Pre-operative radiographs for every orthopedic case.
  • Ultrasound or advanced imaging where the case calls for it, and tell us either way on the form.

Unsure what a case needs before you work it up? Call. A two-minute conversation beforehand saves repeating diagnostics later.

Two things worth knowing

  • If you have not heard from us by the following business day, check your spam folder, then call 631-946-8269.
  • Walk your team through the pre-surgical checklist before surgery day so everyone is ready when we arrive.

Fill in the submission form, or call first if you would rather talk the case through.
