For referring veterinarians

Pre-surgical checklist

Everything below takes a practice about twenty minutes and saves an hour on the day. Work through it before we arrive and the case starts on time.

The one requirement we cannot flex on

The host hospital provides a licensed veterinary technician to administer and monitor all anesthesia. Your team knows the patient and stays with the patient. We bring the surgery.

Before the day

Room and supplies

We travel with the instrumentation and implants. These are the pieces that have to come from your side.

Operating room

  • Surfaces cleaned and disinfected
  • Fresh surgical scrub prepared
  • Anesthesia machine checked and functional
  • Monitoring equipment working
  • Surgical lights functional
  • Clippers ready
  • Suction available

Supplies we ask you to provide

  • PDS suture
  • Monocryl suture
  • Syringes
  • Gauze
  • Sterile saline
  • Tape

Everything else, including instruments, implants and specialty equipment, arrives with us.

Surgery day

How the morning runs

Three phases, in order. The first one happens before our van pulls in.

Before we arrive

  • Pre-surgical examination completed
  • IV catheter placed
  • Pre-medications administered
  • Patient anesthetized and clipping started before we arrive

On arrival and during

We examine the patient, set up our instrumentation and finalize positioning and sterile scrub. Your team runs anesthesia and monitoring throughout the procedure.

Afterwards

Our team breaks down and cleans up our own equipment. Your hospital continues monitoring and post-operative care, or transfers to an overnight facility if that suits the case. Payment is rendered at the time of service.

Next step

Anything on this list you want to talk through?

Call before the day rather than on it. We would far rather sort it out in advance.
